Have you spotted our RSPCA assured signage in Sainsbury’s?
We’re proud to be working with the assurance scheme to raise awareness of high welfare meat at shelf point. A high percentage of shoppers state that they care about welfare when asked, but at shelf this decision often falls down.
This isn’t the customers fault though. As welfare is something not communicated quickly and easily at shelf, it drops down the list of factors affecting consumers decision.
We believe that the RSPCA Assured standards represents the best of the UK commercial welfare standards, so we’ve worked with them to put money where our mouth is and see if comms at shelf will help people make the right choice. The egg category is a great example of how, when consumers are educated clearly on welfare standards, they’ll begin to shop to higher standards, and we hope to see the same in pork!
