Pork Katsu Sando recipe

Imagine this as a cross between an epic sausage sandwich recipe, a pork kiev recipe, and a pork katsu sando recipe. This Japanese sandwich recipe is a mega sausage sandwich recipe with a difference. We’ve been seeing pork sando recipes everywhere and been dying to try one ourselves and it did not dissapoint. For this Japanese pork sandwich recipe we’ve used our award winning Proper Porker British Sausages for the crispy pork patty, with the black pepper seasoning going perfectly with the warm flavours of katsu and the tangy pickled slaw. This really is a taste and texture delight! Try this katsu sandwich recipe if you want some new sandwich ideas or recipe ideas with sausage meat. EPIC STUFF.

Method

  • Begin this pork katsu sando recipe by squeezing out the meat out of our British sausages. No need to add seasoning as our sausages are perfectly seasoned with pepper and salt, making them ideal for sausage meat recipes.
  • Shape the sausage meat into square chunks (Stu literally modelled his on a piece of his kid’s lego!)
  • In a shallow bowl, add beaten eggs,  and in another shallow bowl add the panko crumbs.
  • Dip the pork patties first in the eggs and then into the panko. This will be the delicious crispy panko pork for your sando recipe.
  • Shred the white cabbage (using a grater on big chunks always works a charm to get well sliced cabbage for home pickles or homemade slaw recipes!) Add it a to a bowl with chopped chives, some rice vinegar and a pinch of salt. Leave to pickle slightly. We also served this up with pickled cucumber because any good pork sando recipe has to have a touch of pickles! 
  • Time to cook the pork kiev style patty. Air fry or oven cook the patties until crispy on the outside and cooked all the way through. We tried this as an air fryer sando recipe and it went down a treat!
  • Next up,  make your katsu sauce. We must admit we did cheat here but you can find loads of easy katsu sauce recipes online!
  • Chop off the crusts of your white bread (a snack for the chef!) and then butter the slices.
  • Time to build your pork sando recipe. For this Japanese sandwich recipe, layer up your katsu sauce, the crispy pork patty, the cabbage slaw and anything else you want to add, then the top slice of bread. Chop in half then dig in.
